So, it turns out that Dory was right. The very best advice – when it comes to writing a book at any rate – is to just keep swimming.
I was reminded of this truism as I looked back through my unfinished projects folder last night. All those ideas that I thought were no good; the writing dull, the characters dead on the page, the plot non-existent? Turns out, the quality of writing is pretty much indistinguishable from the work in my finished projects folder. The stuff I’m pretty proud of. The stuff I’m willing to send out into the world. The only difference? With the finished stuff I kept on swimming.
So. That’s my writing advice of the day. KEEP GOING.
I like this little picture so much, I may print it out and stick it above my computer screen.

Yes, absolutely. I find myself singing Dori more times than I can count.
Thanks, Kaitlin – glad it’s not just me!
I’m just catching up on your blog, Sarah, and it’s fantastic! I’ve bookmarked lots of links and can’t wait to check everything out. Thank you very much, and sorry I haven’t been here for a while! (My loss!) xx
